INTRODUCTION
This course intends to provide an overview of theoretical and applied bases for the use of corpora in synchronic and diachronic linguistics with particular reference to English language. We will present general problems concerning the use of empirical methods in linguistics and statistical analysis of textual data. We will illustrate methods for the construction and querying of corpora and the principal resources available today.

Requisites
Basic knowledge of general linguistics and minimum computer skills and management of textual materials.

Frontal lessons and compulsory training (attendance is recommended but not mandatory).

The program of the Linguistics (LM) course for non-attending students has the same bibliography as that for attending students.
As for the compulsory training to take the exam, during the semester the student will find the instructions in the menu on the left under the name of the course (after logging in).
